Avoided Dentention and took ACT last saturday
Hopefully I did real well. I filled out every oval this time, and guessed "C" when 5 minutes were left on the test. My parents want me to get at least 30. My own estimate of performance was 33, which I said to please my parents.
Last Sunday I watched
Anything Else with my mom. It was okay, but not the best. I did not laugh that much, even though it was a comedy. The movie is about a young man (Jason Biggs)who must deal with his insincere girlfriend (Christina Ricci), conflict in his stand-up comedy job, among other problems. Woody Allen is one of his stand-up partners, and wants him to break up his partnership with his manager (Danny Devito), so that they could do comedy together. Allen also serves as Biggs' mentor in the film. It is somewhat funny but the movie's real strength is the messages and theme behind it. As a bonus, Ricci is very sexy in this film.
Delayed Detention
After being threatened with detention yesterday, my punishment will be delayed for two weeks because I told my vice principal about the ACT. My mom said in her note to Mrs. Estrada that even the ACT can serve as a detention. Time will tell whether my detention will be removed for good.
It's a sunny day outside. Today is supposed to be the first day of fall. Now I'm waiting for Thanksgiving and Christmas to arrive. I want my break!
Detention!
Ah well, what I have predicted may come true, except for one thing. I just got a letter telling me to serve detention next Saturday. There's one thing that could save me from this fate, and it's the fact that my ACT test is on the same day. Hopefully, the ACT should be a good enough reason to convince my vice principal to keep me from detention. I can only hope!
By the way, the first day of fall is actually tomorrow. Just found out from listening to the radio. Exact time is 5:47, I think. I'm such a sucker for detailed information!
Today is supposed to be the first day of fall. Ther weather has gotten colder but the laeves are still green and they haven't fallen yet. Today is a gloomy day, with some rain. I was late to school today, and this is bad because my school will put me in dentention if I get too many tardies. It's also bad that my first class had to be Band. My band teacher threaten to put late people in a dentention of his own (practicing instruments after school.) I had an okay weekend, didn't really do much, but as always I felt uneasy going back to school.
Movies
Secondhand Lions - I enjoyed this movie a lot. I thought I wouldn't enjoy, but my mom wanted to see it. It was a funny movie and also made you feel good. A lot of animal humor is used in this film, so animal lovers will probably like the film. (Or maybe not, one of the animals dies in the movie.) Robert Duvall and Michael Caine give out great performances as the reclusive uncles. Haley Joel Osment was good as the young man. He could have done better, though.
Movies
Matchstick Men was a nice con movie. I don't feel like making long reviews today but I enjoyed the movie. Nicholas Cage plays a con artist who must bond with his forgotten 14-year old daughter (Alison Lohman.) Cage's partner is played by Sam Rockwell.
I'm tired and I don't feel like writing too much right now. After a cloudy weekend it is such a clear night...no moon though. Yesterday my whole family visited the grave of my dad's first wife. Then we ate at Giordano's. The deep dish pizza was yummy.
I'm a person who is not good at expressing himself...but I'm trying to. I'm still planning on writing fiction but I'm too lazy...
It's Friday again and another week of school has passed. Just about 38 weeks of school left! While I'm happy that it's the weekend, I don't like the gloomy weather that is predicted to occur. I just don't like lightning and thunder! The rainy weather has just started as a type this.
Another week has almost passed. I'm happy that I do not have a lot homework right now. Tommorrow is a seminar day. Half day for me!
Movies
The Medallion - I think the Rush Hour series and Shanghai series were better than this movie because they were funnier. There isn't as much chemistry between the three leads as there was between Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, or Chan and owen Wilson. The romance between Chan and Claire Forlani didn't seem real. The action didn't seem like Jackie's style. It was an okay movie, but not the best.
Total Recall - A classic action/sci-fi movie. It's also one of those movies that make you think. Was Doug Quaid (Schwarzenegger) really in a dream or was it real? Good movie!
Games
Pokemon Pinball - A cool, fast-paced pinball game. This game is innovative in that you don't just aim for a high score, you also focus on capturing and evolving Pokemon to fill up your Pokedex. To be able to catch Pokemon you must complete a set of tasks before you could capture them. My own first Pokemon was Carvanha, the Piranha Pokemon. Overall, a cool game. Some of you may not like it because of the Pokemon label, but that's fine with me.
By the way, tommorrow is the second anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. My condolences to those who lost loved ones in the attacks.
A whole week of school has passed (actually four days,) and now it is weekend again. School's off to an okay start, and I'm a mixture of happiness and sadness. I'm happy to see all the cool people. I'm sad for a lot of reasons, but one reason is that I don't have a girl. I'm not desperate or anything, but I've been eyeing all these hot girls and feeling kinda bad for myself since I don't know how I could befriend them. Alright, enough on that subject. Here are my classes, and what I think of them:
Advanced Band - My second year in this class. I only stick to the Timpanis, though, and let the other percussion students take the Snare and Bass Drum. I like this class because it's an easy A and there's no paperwork.
Latin American history - After a dismal failure in the 2nd semester of AP Government and Politics last year, I'm taking this class to make up for my losses. This class is more interesting than Gov/Pol.
Earth/Space Science - The class is alright so far. We haven't realy done much yet except for some hands-on activities. Science is one of my favorite subjects, so maybe this will be my favorite class. Time will tell.
World Literature - Like all High School English classes, this one's kind of boring. I haven't felt drowsy yet, but maybe because it is always a short period in my schedule (What I meant by that I will mention later.)
AP Calculus - Also a boring class, even though Math is my favorite subject. It's boring because of the lectures and all that mathematical mumbo jumbo scribbled on the board. I find the homework my real lesson.
Lunch - Self Explanatory. Seniors have an off-campus lunch! :)
Japanese - My fourth year. It's sort of interesting because the class talks about a different culture, but a lot of the time it gets boring, too.
Computer Info Tech - A very small class, but many have said it's an easy A. No real opinion on it, yet. We don't really do much.
The school I go to doesn't have an ordinary schedule. I think they call this type of schedule a "block" schedule. On Mondays and Fridays we have an 8-period day, and the classes are about 40 minutes each. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays we have 3 double periods, a single period, and lunch. And on Thursdays we have just two seminars (special classes), and we are at school for just half a day. (Lucky, aren't we?) We don't have a seminar day during 4-day school weeks such as this week. We have Advisory (Study Hall thingy) every day, and the duration of Advisory varies depending on the day.
All good things must come to an end...
...until next year. Today is Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer, and tommorrow I am reluctantly going back to school. I will be a senior, with just one year until I get to college. I know I did very little besides staying in the house all day during the summer, but still, that's better than being in school.
Movies
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring - Visually beautiful, but the first half was kinda boring. I almost fell asleep.
Midnight Run - A very funny action comedy with Robert Deniro. It was one of those goofy "road trip" movies. It's an old movie, but it is a classic.
