Lion King Broadway Musical

I went to the Lion King Musical in Cadillac Theater today with my Mom. It was a live musical that was based on the movie. It was a nice, vibrant performance. The plot in the movie and the musical was basically the same, but there were some variations in the live adaptation. The music was wonderfully performed, especially Rafiki's lyrics. (Rafiki is a female this time.) The costumes were innovative; each performer resembled the animal they were portraying, and moved like it, too! I like the way the birds were presented; they were flown like kites in the air. The lions were an exception; they were given more human-like characteristics. But that's okay, because their costumes were beautiful and designed to show their lion spirit. The backgrounds were beautiful. I recommend that you see it one time if you liked the Lion King movie.

Six Flags

Last Saturday I went to Six Flags with my parents. I was a bit unenthusiastic about going because there wasn't really anythng for me to do there except watch the shows. Yes, that's right, I do not like riding roller coasters. I have been to a roller coaster in Las Vegas. But when the ride was finished, I did not feel like going back to another roller coaster ever again. Well, I watched the shows, and they were good. I watched an IMAX show which was a documentary about the science of risk and skydiving. It was a quite interesting film. I also watched a ice skating show, which was also entertaining. The show had themes like James Bond and Mexican Dance.

Besides watching shows, there were also some rides that we went to. There was an elevator that allowed people to have a bird's eye view of the park. It was a clear day, and I could see Chicago from the distance! (25 miles!) We rode a train that went around the park. I went to that ride which is a cart that goes around in circles, and gives you a weightless feeling when it goes down. I went to the moon in the virtual space shuttle ride. And I went go-karting in a track in the theme park.

But we mostly were looking around, seeing what was new. I tried a pizza which tasted like one of those frozen pizzas you could get at your grocery store. Not very good, unlike pizzeria pizza. It was a good summer day, though.

Just a week till school starts! I am really nervous and I don't want to go back to school!

Movies!

The Fifth Element - A very fun Sci-fi movie. This movie gives a fun depiction of the future 200 years from now. They still have McDonald's restaurants, but flying cars now dominate the skies and paradise can be found on other planets. The flying car action scene was great fun. I wish there were more scenes like that in the movie. While it may not seem that way on the DVD cover, The Fifth Element is a comedy/spoof as well as a Sci-Fi. There are many jokes and references to pop culture in the movie. The plot is a bit simple but the action and comedy make up for it. Bruce Willis plays the hero, a Brooklyn Taxi Cab Driver, and he's great. Milla Jonovich's character, who is central to the plot, adds some mysticism as well as innocence to the movie. Many people thought Chris Tucker was annoying, but I loved his diva character! He was a parody of today's celebrities. A fan of science fiction, action, and comedy will like this movie.

Seabiscuit - It's one of those wholesome "feel good" type movies. Yes, it did make me feel good after viewing it at the cinema. The movie isn't just about the horse named "Seabiscuit," it's also about the humans that worked with him so that they could be the best at horse racing. The horse racing scenes were great. Obviously a lot of work was put into the film. Each of the three main human characters has a good introductory story. The owner (Jeff Bridges) was rich as a car dealer, but was hit hard by the Depression, his son's death, and his divorce. The horse trainer (Chris Cooper) was a loner that knew how to calm horses. And Seabiscuit's rider (Tobey Maguire) was blind in one eye and struggled to make money. The horse also has a story. Seabiscuit was bred from strong parents, but he walked with a limp and he was a lazy horse. When the four characters meet each other, each of their lives changes, possibly for the better. In summary, it's a good movie and it's worth a watch.

Books

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card - It's a good sci-fi book. I have to read it for my AP Lit Class, but unlike most other books that your High School makes you read, this one is not as boring. There are some pretty cool concepts in this movie, such as the battle stimulation. I like the plot so far (I have read only five chapters.) Ender is a six year old genius, but he is an outcast because he was the third-born in his family. A military official asks him to go to battle school in outer space because the military needs his genius and leadership. The military is preparing for the next invasion of the "Buggers", an aggressive alien race. Ender agrees to go to the school and leave his family. He finds that he is still an outcast among the children in his school, but what we know is that his isolation was intentional as part of his training.

It's less than 2 weeks until school starts! Damn, summer was short. I don't want to go back to school! Ah well, at least it's my senior year, and I guess that's a reason to look forward to this school year. Just one year till college!

A lowdown on what I've watched

Gattaca - It is not your average sci-fi. But it is a good movie that talks about discrimination in the future - not discrimination based on physical characterstics, discrimination based on your genes. It is a future in which one's life can be predicted based on what is encoded in their DNA. Not heavy on action on comedy, but heavy in plot. It is a good flick for the brainiac in all of us.

Uptown Girls - A lighthearted story about a twentysomething (Brittany Murphy) who is a kid at heart, and a kid (Dakota Fanning) who is vice versa. It is a cute flick that shines because of young Fanning. Molly (Murphy) is looking for a job, and after a sequence of events she must be the nanny of stuck-up Raye (Fanning.) The movie's plot revolves around the relationship of these two, and what they learn from each other. It is a "chick flick" in the sense that there is no action at all, just an emotional plot. But I am a guy and I liked it!

Plans to start fiction

After watching Andromeda and admiring the complicated univerese that Gene Roddenberry imagined, I'm thinking about making my own space fiction. I haven't started writing it yet, but I plan to incorporate comedy more than other space fiction. Right now I need to think up characters, extraterristials, worlds, technologies, and all that other stuff first! I will plan to write a timeline for my fiction series.

I will also be planning to write Pokemon fanfiction, but I still need to think up a good plot for the fanfic.

Earth to Mars Proximity

Earth and Mars will be at their closest to each other since about 60,000 years ago on August 27, 2003, at approximately 5:51 am Eastern. The distance between the two planets will be 34.65 million miles. This wasn't the smallest recorded Earth-Mars distance; on September 12, 57617 BC the proximity was 34.62 miles. People from all over the world are said to be paying attention to this event. Apparently Mars will be the brightest object on the sky, shining with a pinkish color.

Yesterday there was a massive power outage in the Northeastern U.S. and Canada. And I mean massive! Cities from New York to Ottawa to Cleveland had no power at all. This happened at around 4 pm Eastern time. On the news it showed millons of people on the streets of New York trying to get home. The scene was reminiscent of the 9/11 incident. But the major difference was that everyone was calmer - authorities have said that the power outages were not terrorist acts, but caused by natural forces. Apparently a fire broke out in one of the power plants, thus causing an electric grid to go out. This grid effected nearby grids like a "domino" effect. Now people all over the east will be without power, probably even while I'm typing this.

Last Monday we traded our three year old Caravan for a Black Pathfinder LE. My dad wanted to trade it in because he thought it was accident prone. It was a bit sad leaving our van behind, but hey, it's just a machine.

I have Caligynophobia? Maybe.

My desciption of a beautiful woman is someone who is pale-skinned, preferably blond-haired, and a nice body and face. Not too skinny and not too fat. As you may look at previous entries I obssess over women who look like that. But everytime I meet these kinds of women in real life I get unusually scared of them, more than I would of other types of people. I guess I may have "Caligynophobia," meaning that I have a fear of beautiful women. This is surely to put a dent in my personal life.

I saw S.W.A.T. today, and it was good fun flick, with lots of action and suspense. I enjoyed it a lot. Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell were cool, as well as the rest of the S.W.A.T. team. I also rewatched Legally Blonde and it seems the more I watch it, the more I like it. It truly is an inspiring movie.

The weather's beeen sort of clody the last week, but it was quite sunny in the weekend.

I just rented Legally Blonde. It wasn't really funny to me and there were not that much laughs. But it was one of those inspiring movies in which an outcast proves herself, like Mulan or G.I. Jane. Reese Witherspoon was quite a charming character. Okay, so maybe I liked her mainly for her golden locks. But she had a rather bright yet strong attitude, too. It is a good flick. If you want to see this movie expect a chick flick kind of movie.

Last Sunday we had a festival called Venetian Night. It is basically a parade but involving a trail of boats on the lake. It was a good parade. Some of the boats were exquisitely designed. I went with my mom and her friend.

Summer's kinda boring, but it's better than being in school.

Just a place for me to record my thoughts and aspirations.
